Bitter ex (24M) threatening to write to my prospective colleges accusing me (23F) of mental harassment/physical abuse.

They will not care. Just think about it like this, say someone sends a complaint about Brynn Ashley to college XYZ saying that she did this.

  1. How do they substantiate these claims? They cannot. Its anecdotal and large institutions already have to field a great deal of bullshit so they know how to sort these things out.

  2. Sometimes when sexual assaults/harassment are perpetrated by students colleges take no action so far as expelling or disenrolling them. A lot of institutions are very careful not to take on the role of "police". This is often criticized, but in your case should ease your mind

  3. How would they know that you were the Brynn Ashley mentioned in the complaint in the first place, you know? I suppose if you have a really uncommon name it would be more obvious, but I just don't see how they could reasonable block applicants for personal reasons when they cant even confirm that you're the person that's being spoken about.

So, I would say that you're safe insofar as graduate applications go. I'm sorry that you're going through this and I hope that you have resources, whether that be through the courts on or through a women's advocacy group. I especially recommend reaching out to the latter. Many communities have these groups and you might find their support invaluable
