[BtS E1] Theories?

I hope the supernatural symbolism stays the way it's been, known but never explained. In LiS it was pretty clear that there was supernatural stuff going on, but they never delved into those things because they didn't have to; the strength of the game existed in the relationships between the characters as they experienced this story. We didn't know what Rachel's doe really was, or where Max's powers came from, or how the tornado was connected to her power, but it wasn't really something you hoped would be answered, there was a beauty in not knowing.

So far BtS is following that formula. Episode hit me especially hard because I'm feeling a lot of the same rage and experiencing the same problems as these characters, and with just as little opportunity to vent it. There was plenty of supernatural symbolism, all the stuff you've mentioned, and I'm glad it's not the main interest I've got here. My priority is to enjoy the time we get to spend with Rachel, despite knowing how it'll all end. On that note, it wasn't clear at the end when the wind caused the fire to spread, if Rachel somehow caused it. My hope is that it was simply meant to be dramatic effect, that it was meant to emphasize the moment, because I feel like giving Rachel powers would be bad. Powers were Max's thing, and it clearly isn't needed for this story to be emotional. A vague connection to the universe would be fine, something implied such as her emotions making subtle changes to weather.
