Building a pistol AR

I think what's happening is he's just shortening the barrel. Effectively, it's still a rifle. But maybe it won't comply with local laws on long gun vs handgun. And if that's the case, he should probably ask his local sheriff about re-register.

Which, if it's a long gun vs handgun thing, it makes me admire the simplicity of California's laws.

Q: can I own an AR in California?

A: yes! Provided it's modified in a way that requires a tool to remove the magazine, and the capacity of the magazine is not more than 10.

Q: so... I can't really have an AR, can I?

A: of course you can! It's your right as a citizen. Provided it's modified so that quick reloading is disabled. Also, you may not transport it loaded and chambered. And technically, you need to obtain a permit to transport it. And you can even buy ammo a full box at a time. And...

Q: know what? Fuck it. I didn't really want one that bad.
