You can totally rock non-pencil skirts in corporate environments. Length and fabric will play a big part in making them professional looking. Look for styles that are at or below the knee, avoid going above the knee if you can! Look for suiting fabrics, nice tweeds, wools, etc.
You could rock a godet skirt, which is about the same kind of paneled style as you've linked above.
Paneled skirts can totally be made to work for work, too, especially if you go for nice fabrics and sleek detailing.
