But that diploma doe

The meme isn’t about who’s fault college debt is. It’s about how the US views and expects 18 year olds as mature and prepared enough to make large financial decisions that will change their life, but not old enough to handle drinking.

It’s similar to the arguments in support of the 26th amendment, which changed the voting age from 21 to 18 largely because of the Vietnam war. “Old enough to fight, old enough to vote”

Which interestingly enough is why the drinking age was initially 18; after the 26th amendment in 1971 many states started lowering their drinking ages to 18. Prior to the 26th amendment the average drinking age was 21 but it varies state to state, a few states sold beer and wine at 18 and hard liquor at 21.

It’s an interesting point but not a very good one as it ignores the serious risks of lowering the drinking age, The main three being drunk driving, alcohol poisoning, and violent and/or destructive behavior the largest risk of course being drunk driving accidents.

It is just a meme though so I wouldn’t interpret it literally (as I just have lol)
