Can anyone give me their thoughts about the /r/news debate?

Much of the discussion in /r/news was horrid, so I certainly understand deleting egregious comments and even baiting posts. But I don't think it was responsible of them to delete entire threads, even temporarily, while a major news story affecting one of the minorities they're claiming to act in the name of was still going down. Islamophobia is shit, but Islamophobia happens every single day on the Internet whether those threads are there or not -- this story is something that people needed to know about today.

Also, I have to believe that the /r/news mods knew what the result of their actions would be: Every other sub on the site is in a complete shambles now, with massive lynch mobs forming over "censorship" and /r/The_Donald and friends likely gaining credibility with the average user over their stance on this issue. What we should have been talking about was the story, but instead we're talking about this shit, and just speaking pragmatically that isn't helping anybody at all.

With all of that said, I find the rage pretty laughable. There are people who legitimately believe that /r/news mods are in collusion with the owners/admins of reddit to "control the flow of information" for some nefarious purpose -- namely, "SJWs" don't allow criticism of Islam, a religious whose main-stream believers are opposed to many of the tenants of feminism / social justice. So SJWs are are so stupid and misguided that they actively work against their own interests, yet so conniving and powerful that they've managed to seize the puppet strings of the entire media and Internet to that end.

I also think it's pretty telling how laissez faire all of the broseph libertarians on reddit are about things that don't affect them -- like racial slurs and the representation of minorities in media -- but when it comes to the subreddit system, quite possibly the closest thing to libertarian-style 'freedom of association' you can get on the entire Internet, all of a sudden they're scrambling for the government (reddit admins) to step in and distribute the wealth / means of production (subreddit control).
