Can we take a second to talk about Rooney's performance?

Yes he was poor but i find it crazy that 1 game into the season people are calling for him to be dropped.

Yes I KNOW he has been poor for sometime, but this is a brand new manager trying to stamp his authority on this team, who's to say that Rooney can't still come good as time goes on? Yes we've been saying that for a while but Rooney has only been poor for as long as this United team has been poor, i'm confident if we were winning titles that Rooney would be performing better (still not as good as previous years mind)

Also, since the turn of 2016 Rooney has been one of our better players IMO, he had a flurry of goals starting in January then played midfield for us for the last couple of months of the season, and played it very well, his vision and passing were the best i've ever seen them.

It can't help that his position is constantly being changed, he's constantly moving from 9 to 10 to 8 (might have the number wrong, but CM), back to 10 etc. Maybe as he approaches his twilight years his future is as a Pirlo type midfielder (all beit one that's not as good) and therefore he doesn't have a future in this team (Mourinho doesn't want him in midfield) but regardless, we are 1 game into another new era, after 3 relatively yoyo seasons of mixed quality, you'd struggle to pick out many who has been consistent for us during that time.

Not disagreeing at all that Rooney has dipped and it's a concern but lets see how he performs in the team going forward then make a judgement, you don't think Mourinho will want to see more of him before deciding whether to drop him or not?
