Can someone explain this demo reel to me?

I did read the reel breakdown. I am not laughing at his work or criticizing. His professional work is very good, as it's feature level and looks great. But his student work is really bad, and it doesn't belong with the rest of his work. I wonder why he is choosing to include it in his reel if he has such good work otherwise. The breakdowns are very trickily worded to make it sound like he did the full shots, but there is something odd about how he describes everything. And for the shots with the nascar shots with the robots he describes what the studio did, not his individual task. I am thinking there is something slightly dishonest going on. I am not laughing at his work, I was just wondering how he got to do such great work at his first studio gig (I assumed MPC was one of those places where you go and do prep for a while) especially with his student work, and I was asking if someone understands the wording of his breakdown, because something definitely smells fishy. I showed it to some of my friends in the industry and they are confused too.
