I was kidding ofc, but let me explain. Italian's taste for foods and the balance of its flavours is remarcably different from that of americans/english etc. Much of the italian food adapted and "popularized" to fit your tastes looks to us as it's been distorted in a way that we find nonsensical, random, disgusting, atrocious. A bit like when you let a kid mix random stuff. So: it's not because of cultural purity, but because its modifications act on tastes that we don't find appealing.

Take a milkshake. Let's make-believe that milkshakes are the most typical and historical food from wherever you're from. Now take a beer-flavoured milkshake with raw anchovies as a topping. A different culture might find it tasty and attractive but you'd just find it... gross don't you? Is that a sign of close-mindedness or it's just a difference in tastes? What would you think if people abroad addressed that milkshake as a typical milkshake of your own country
