Having freedom is inherently unsafe. There will always be someone who can do the mental gymnastics to justify themselves doing something unsavory. Be it the post middle age Karen that thinks it's ok to be racist or these young men that think they can prey upon this woman and her child. Noone is going to care for your personal safety, or your family's safety except you. And honestly I prefer the government stay out of it. When a government is the sole source of safety, with limited resources, how are they going to determine who gets those resources? Then we go into the equity/equality rabbit hole.

Criminal punishment isn't there to protect you, it's to deter the next person from committing crimes. When a city has no punishment for crimes, then criminals don't just think they can get away with taking your hard earned money, they DO get away with it.

So, the city can't do anything to actually prevent this, but what they have done is remove the citizens right to arm and protect themselves. That'd be great if the police were seconds away, guess what, they're not. If she can't defend herself and her family, she's getting robbed. Is the city going to reimburse her for what was stolen? Don't think so, but I could be wrong. I'm originally from Illinois, should the poor people where I'm from that barely scrape by have their tax dollars siphoned off to Chicago to reimburse citizens that refuse to protect themselves?

Tl;Dr: take your safety into your own hands if you value freedom. Don't rely on the government to keep you safe, 99 percent of politicians will only care about themselves and their own.
