Yes, the S7 was so weird.

In their breakup scene, Lorelai almost admits that their relationship (dating/marriage) was a rebound and that she still loves Luke, and most importantly, she almost admits to Chris that she was never in love with him and that he was never "the one" for her, even without Luke in the picture, or in the past (Sookie's question) even Chris himself knew that, so he told her he should have known because it took him 20 to get her to agree to marry him.

I think all of this was an unnecessary mess from the writers, because they made it clear again that Lorelai only loved Luke, so why all the drama?

I totally agree with you that it was Lorelai who had to work so hard (more than just a short apology) to win back Luke's trust and love, not the other way around.
