Christian Analysis Defeats the Skepticism of Bart Ehrman: How Jesus Became God in the Flesh

Here is the trouble we face. Neither Bart Ehrman nor any other atheist invented textual criticism. Christians invented (or discovered (or reinvented, or rediscovered)) the rules of textual criticism. If this blogger is right, then the rules of textual criticism are given by God, and the results of such research must be recognized by all.

As the blogger said "Deny the laws of logic[4] and knowledge is not possible—out with knowledge go analysis and textual criticism."

So, what if this same form of analysis shows results that challenge our deepest assumptions. We discover that our simplistic harmonization of the gospels falls apart as good solid textual criticism shows that the gospels do not allow for harmonization. We learn to our surprise that we have to recognize the nature of the gospels as narratives shaped by an author. Deeper application of rational and logical analysis pushes us to the point where we recognize that gospel authors put words on the lips of Jesus and that the Bible can and does contain contradictions.

All this is the result of research done by Christians over the last few centuries. Research done by Christians for Christians. Research and scholarship replicated every day in our seminaries by dedicated, faithful, godly Christian professors and students.

Even the claim that Bart Ehrman is an atheist and thus HE cannot say any knowledge is irrelevant here. Bart Ehrman was a Christian, who, when dealing with all the complications that is our Bible watched his faith collapse. So, if he has all the knowledge foundations that only a Christian can have, and he STILL found contradictions and reason to lose hope, then ANY one of us could fall away from the faith if we did too much research, too much metaphysics, too much time among dusty old manuscripts.
