Clarification

I got some info wrong, but not that wrong.

"7th January 2020: Layoffs & restructures at FFG.  X-Wing was not primarily affected (though we know of at least one redundancy in OP). "

When I said it went from one studio to another, I was mistaken. I was thinking of this period of restructure that is highlighted.

As per the article, immediately after the restructure, although it did not change much in the way of FFG staff, a paradigm shift happened at that moment that manifested from widespread leadership change.

At some point, somewhere, the strategy was to make money off old stuff rather than produce new stuff, which resulted in the bottleneck in production/availability that still haunts the game.

In any case, FFG strategy clearly didn't work out, as evidenced by the strange and seemingly disparate assortment of available product.

...but this is all just bad rehashing of that article that I haven't bothered to re-read.

As to why one segment of a company would choose to bolster its own sales for a short time at the expense of the long term, I would have to imagine that there was some sort of monetary benefit to hitting certain numbers at certain times, definitely in the decision making echelons. Hence restructuring, and the eventual boot. Mistakes were made.

Squadrons was produced. It seems to be a hit. Why no tie in? Mandalorian is tearing it up, where's the fan cross germination? Seems like Asmodee et al were too busy with bullshit to catch the current wave. Whatever the answer, I'd love to see a more robust X-wing game, and a growing community.
