CMV: I believe every American is responsible for protecting themselves and that states that don't allow the concealed carrying of weapons is denying it's citizens the basic human right to self defense.

You are trying to make an emotional argument.

No I am not. It is perfectly rational for me to be afraid of being paralyzed, blinded, or given a TBI by an irresponsible gun owner next door. It's unlikely yes, but still possible.

'look how bad the damage could be', and my counter is that there are worse potential outcomes that you ignore everyday.

So I am not free to ignore certain dangers and be concerned with others? You don't think I don't take steps to mitigate them? If there was a loose tree in my yard you don't think I'd cut it down? You don't think if there's a gas leak in my house I wouldn't get the fuck out? I spend many hours researching on how to make a remodeling job above and beyond fire proofing code when I did it.

What can I do about a gun owner next door?

And finally, that is my point exactly, your arguments are equally irrational as the arguments back then about the content on television.

No. There's absolutely no proof television does such things. There is proof of people being shot every day.

Frequently the first thing to go right before things get really bad are the means for the population to resist. So depending on where countries are in that process, I think that they are at least setting themselves up to be oppressed.

Now who is using emotional arguments?
