Common sense means something that follows basic logic and people of most belief systems intuitively agree with.

The vast majority of Americans actually agree with the common sense guns laws. Even gun nuts.

The main ones are tightening up the background checks that are already in place and closing loopholes about buying guns outside of a certified dealership. Some also add to that enforcing gun safety such as gun storage and trigger locks.

You do need to be careful not to lump together all proposed gun safety laws with the 'common sense' gun laws.

The fact is even in places like Switzerland and Sweden where there are lots of guns and low gun deaths -- they have more gun regulation. You need to store a gun safely, you need to pass a proper background check, and to carry a gun permit (with a few exceptions for certain guns).

So like I said even gun nuts don't disagree with these ideas. They don't think it's a good idea to let your child play with a loaded shotgun. They don't think serial killers should be given assault rifles.

They, for the most part, absolutely agree with the common sense of the laws. What they disagree with is that they should be legally enforced because, in fact, they are so common sense they will be carried out anyway by legal gun owners and allowing the government to have too much control could mean slowly taking away all of your gun rights.

Whether they are truly beneficial is speculative and hard to say. In Europe the results speak for themselves, yet in the USA places like Wyoming have similarly low gun deaths without the need for such regulation.

It is possible, however, that a few of the big public massacres that have happened wouldn't have done so if a few of these laws had been in place. A few of the shooters had a history of mental illness.

I think maybe what you need to see the control between is 'common sense' gun laws, and whether it is common sense that they need to be law.
