Absolutely. You rush to endgame, and then it's either raiding or M+. The way progression works for both means any wipe wastes more time rhen just running back from the dungeon entrance. Class balance is some of biggest bullshit I've seen since the days Warlocks were the real final boss of BC, with no correlatoon between damage and utility. You get mages who have both the best dps AND the best utility AND range, while othe classes with far less damage bring little utility and are stuck in melee(which is heavily punished.) And because of A. the hyper timed progression and B. the sheer disparity between class performance, this means whole classes are just not worth playing.

And, this is a personal gripe, but they also made those top tiers mages FUCKING BORING to play. Summoners in FF14 have a 2 minute long rotation; Wow mages just cast fireball until a crit happens or Mass is off cooldown, then pop Mass and cast instants until they're out. Aoe rotation isn't much more exciting, as evidenced by the fact I don't even remember it.
