is comp sci at loughborough uni competitive? if so do i have to be an early applicant and submit my personal statement asap?

It depends on your grades - if you exceed the entry requirements you should be ok, since Loughborough is not one of the more competitive unis for Comp Sci (think Oxbridge, Durham, London, Warwick, and others). It's not worth rushing your personal statement to apply early, HOWEVER universities typically make offers on a first-come-first-served basis; ergo, if you submit a solid personal statement earlier on, you will receive your offer earlier, which can be beneficial. There tends to be "blocks" of applicants -

  1. those that apply before mid-October (Oxbridge applications)
  2. those that apply before the end of November
  3. those that apply by late December
  4. those that apply by the UCAS deadline

Your application will be considered in line with these "blocks" of applications - more places are typically given to earlier blocks of applicants than later ones. Applying early will therefore benefit your application in terms of receiving earlier offers, although this will not be the determining factor for whether or not you receive offers - some unis take longer to process admissions than others. So it is definitely worth applying as soon as you can for that reason, as long as your personal statement has been completed to the best of your ability!

Good luck!
