Conan O'Brien On The Orlando Shooting

"The problem is every time pro gun people hear gun control they think gun prohibition."

And have you ever wondered why? How about distrust and lack of integrity (especially Feinstein and Clinton). Since 2012, it's been a constant talk of the need for more gun control. To many, it's a black and white issue. I'd argue that the results would be grey. They have spent much of their effort creating ATF 41p and several other acts that target gun owners. 41P targets those that ALREADY REGISTER THEIR WEAPONS to the U.S. government. They actually create even more requirements than what currently exist to own an NFA item (which are registered with the US government, not something you can just get with a background check). They banned 7n6 5.45x39 ammunition out of the blue, completely unprovoked. The ammunition didn't even meet the requirements for "armor piercing," but that's another conversation entirely. If the administration was even remotely respectful towards gun owners maybe we would have a different tone regarding the issue, but when a gun grabbing agenda is in place, its no wonder we don't trust a thing that comes out of the administrations mouth. You can't expect a reasonable compromise from a group if you have spent all of your time targeting said group. The administration has targeted gun owners vehemently. If you want registration, there are ways to do so that benefit both the government to make sure that guns don't fall into the wrong hands. Here's a start: Remove the NFA tax for registering/transferring SBR's/Suppressors/Machine guns/Destructive devices. People pay a $200 tax PER ITEM for the item they want to purchase then have to wait 3-9 months before it's approved. People literally flock to do so because they want a suppressor or shorter barrel. Remove the tax and people will register these types of guns even more than they already do. It's literally a win-win because as of this July, all persons involved in trusts and coporations are subject to background checks and fingerprints (fingerprints I think is pointless, but a NCIS check is not a bad thing). That's just a small solution.

Moving on: Do I need to remind others of the assault weapons ban of 1994? It did nothing to curb gun violence. It lasted 10 years (I believe). What reason do we have to believe that reinstating it would change anything? If you want to fix the issue it's going to take collaboration from both sides. However, the damage has been done during this administration. It has been proven to many (most?) gun owners that we can't and won't trust the Obama (or Hillary if it comes to that) administration to make decisions without encroaching on our rights. This has been proven with his frivolous executive orders that have little to no effect on stopping criminals from getting a gun, and targeting gun owners. Start by repairing distrust, then work on solutions that both sides can agree to that are actually effective. In reality, the divide in this country will never allow it, but that is the real start to solving issues in this country as a whole: talking about it.
