Why is it considered humane to put an animal down when they are suffering & have a low quality of life, but when a human is suffering & have a low quality of life, they are told to stay strong and that death isn't an option?

I sat in a hospital room for 4 days and watched my dad die. He had dementia and while living in an assisted living facility he had a stroke at night. He was not going to recover from the stroke and even if he did he was not going to recover from dementia (nobody recovers from dementia). So my brother and I had them remove his feeding tube and IV line and we sat there and watched him die of starvation and dehydration.

This is considered a humane and acceptable way for a human's life to end.

The doctor would not give my dad morphine to shorten the duration of him starving to death, he said "only god can take a life". It was a catholic hospital. My response to the doctor was "Fuck your god." The doctor did not visit with me much after that.
