COVID-19 update for May 31, 2021: Ottawa: 50, Province of Ontario: 916 new cases, 13 death(s), 1,707 resolved, 144,833 vaccinated.

Just linking to the post by u/Lazy_Canadian above, in the 33% is only relevant on stopping all symptoms, and the vaccines are still extremely effective in preventing serious symptoms, hospitalisation and death for this variant, which is arguably the more important metric.

Just to settle some concern regarding the 33% effective stat floating around, it is only regarding stoping symptomatic disease completely following 1st dose and after the 3 week window. The Pfizer vaccine was still highly effective at keeping people out of the hospital and out of the morgue. It looks like it is still about 88% effective at preventing severe symptoms even after just one dose and following the 3 week window. So still a very effective vaccine even against the new VOC.
