Crib or Bassinet? Sleeping in same room necessary?

We put our son in a bassinet to start with, and also a little beanbag with a harness. Daytime naps were on the beanbag on the sofa and we'd put him down to sleep in the bassinet in the lounge in the evening, then carry it into our bedroom when we went to bed. It may not workfor everyone but he sleeps through anything now, tv, vacuum cleaner, nothing phases him.

The beanbag was a godsend, super comfy and portable if I needed to go anywhere else in the house, it's the one thing we've used loads everyday. Same with the bassinet, everyone told us not to bother because he'd grow out of it so soon but it's worked for us. At about 4 months we got a cot for the bedroom but he still fits the bassinet and goes down for the night in the lounge and we carry him into bed now when we go.

It helped us for easy feeding to have him right there with us, and we don't have to creep around the house in case we wake him up because he's used to low level noise. He's 6 months now and has been sleeping through the night for about 2 months. We could put him straight down into the cot now, and not have him in our room but we don't want to. I like knowing he's near so I can check on him, and if he does need us in the night we can comfort him immediately without him waking up too much, and he usually goes straight back to sleep without needing to get him out of his cot. We haven't sleep trained him consciously, it just seemed to happen that we went with comforting rather than crying it out, and we're lucky that he's a good sleeper.

Whatever you choose is up to you though, this is only what works for us and our kiddo, and if it hadn't we would have found a different approach.
