So this cropped up on my Facebook wall. Help me construct an argument.

Since I could go in depth, I'll probably only focus on the points...

  1. We're Influenced by Our Media - and Not Necessarily for the Better

We are influenced by our religion, our peers, our beliefs, our political views, and a number of other things such as familial and communal pressures.

Media only does a small job on us, helping us see stories of defeat, victory, triumph and circumstances beyond what is the norm. The very same arguments for media influencing us has been tried in a number of ways in the past and have been shown to be poorly researched for the benefit of people that profit off the moral panic involved.

Also, Anita and Zoe aren't the only women in the world and silencing others to make them so is enacting cognitive dissonance on oneself in thinking that the "WORST HARASSMENT CAMPAIGN EVAH!" is responsible for their lies and deceptions which would make PT Barnum a proud man.

  1. We're Being Taught That Only Violence Solves Problems

D&D is all about fantasy violence. So is Game of Thrones, 50 Shades of Grey (kinky violence), and fighting games. If you don't like those and want to play Tetris, be my guest. But don't claim that all games are violent in a headline then think that extrapolates to real world violence when the facts show that more people playing vidya is less people committing real world atrocities.

Keep it in perspective.

  1. Our Heroes Are Increasingly Toxic

I heard this when San Andreas had a black character. I didn't hear any feminist explain how Perfect Dark's heroine was great even though that game sold more than Golden Eye. You claim toxic, but your very words undermine the fact that you have less games and experience to compare to than someone in the industry with more characters to pull from and talk about. In other words.... Git gud.

  1. We're Reinforcing Nerd Stereotypes - and Making Even Worse Ones

No, you are. Don't force your projections of "nerd culture" from your first paragraph onto others. These are your biases you've written, not those of the reader. You slanted the article on your own and you've talked about something you have little experience with. If you've ever seen Revenge of the Nerds from the 80s, you're like the sorority of the jocks, looking down on people different from you but you don't have the courage to actually experience what others are. You haven't gone to a fighting game tournament to see those people you've dismissed as white males, and your limited experience exposes your stereotypes. This is your chance to look in the mirror. If you can't see outside the echo chamber, it's on you. But you don't speak for me or anyone else when it comes to dismissing opposing views as fat males who are socially awkward when that stereotype died before the cultural elite moved in to reignite those old flames.

  1. We're Struggling Against Diversity

We're struggling with diversity because opportunists came in to claim we're all straight white males. You included. You ignore areas like arcades that are incredibly diverse and ignore female gamers to make false points. I have to wonder who became the new PTA board member... Gamers or the feminists who can't practice what they preach...

  1. Our Attitudes and Actions Toward Women Are Driving Them out of the Culture

False. They play victim for money and attention because they've failed in their other endeavors. Very few want to know Brianna, but she wants to claim harassment from people talking about a scandal. Her actions speak to someone who has no moral core and is willing to do anything to keep the spotlight on them and maintain relevancy. That's not our problem. We didn't ask for her attentions. But she sure asks for ours.

You stand by abusers, harassers, and morally questionable people while ignoring other people from feminists, to women, who are silenced to support these select few people. Is it the money? How much they claim victimhood status?

Where is your support for Huniepop? How about Jennifer Dawes? The Factual Feminist? Where's your support for the people fired by the ones supporting Anita and co?

You claim that three women are representation enough... Why not hear other stories and views?

It's sad to see someone close their mind and hearts to what others have had to say but if you will, let me end on what these people have done:

Assist in numerous charities and donation drives to help make the world a better place

Force gaming websites to raise THEIR standards by maintaining a better ethics policy than they had before.

Coordinate gamers in supporting new websites such as goodgamers.us, techraptor, and nichegamer

The list can go on, but I won't. For someone who claims the moral high ground, it sure looks like a high horse when they know so little about a revolt against a scandal filled with smears and lies on others.
