Culture War Roundup for the Week of January 20, 2020

So I was afraid to post this because there are others here who could do this proper justice but this is too juicy to not discuss. If you are that person, please provide the glorious commentary this deserves.

SO Bernie posted an implicit 'endorsement' by Joe Rogan on his twitter. World blows up.

The Hill: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZwTEbDEQF4 (Having problems getting twitter to cooperate and give me the Bernie tweet)

The media as fair and unbiased as it is is reporting that Bernie is responding to a massive 'backlash' to Bernie accepting and promoting his endorsement by problematic MMA musclehead Joe 'DMT' Rogan. Basically there's a massive effort by femnists/lgbt/identity driven groups to paint this as terrible and as 'empowering' a bigot like Joe Rogan. The initial claims are that he's transphobic and his trans views should be enough to keep him out of the Democratic party (Trans issues over medicare for all?) There was some digging of muck rakers about some planet of the apes racist comment on a podcast but that's getting no traction (and why would it with his guest list).

It's still early but we're beginning to see mild pushback. Some folks are daring to advance the idea that a big tent would be important to defeating Trump though others seem committed to Trans issues as a shibboleth for the party. Trans issues now that we would have characterized as straw manning just a few years ago. Male MMA fighters? Is that really what you want to all agree to be hushhush about (Hill clip where everyone acts like something egregious was said by this unserious but influential meathead)?

So hot take, this will actually be a major boost in the primaries if it continues to be signal boosted by the woke. This seems ripe for 4chan shennanigans. This is the kind of cultural spite that motivates people to do something. At the same time, I wouldn't count on this base to vote in the general.
