Daily Simple Questions Thread - May 31, 2016

Hello,

I'm currently in the process of putting together my new rig and as I'm no hardware specialist, I'd love to hear some input. Here is what I thought of so far. My budget is about 1500$. No OS or peripherals. The rig is used mostly for gaming, as well as office tasks. Occasionally video rendering as well.

CPU I'm leaning towards a 6700K, but I also consider a 6600K. I know the 6700K doesn't do much for gaming at the moment, but how likely is it, that games will be able to use hyperthreading better within the next few years?

Graphics Card This is almost certainly going to be a GTX1070

RAM Certainly DDR4, but I'm unsure about the specific aspects. 1. 16GB or 32GB? I think 16GB is plenty at the moment and upgrading is easy enough, if necessary. Correct? 2. What is the meaning of DDR4-2133 or DDR4-2666 etc? Wikipedia says, Skylake uses DDR4-2133, so I have to use one those? 3. Does Quad-channel make any sense? Does Skylake even support it? Should I pay heed to better CL? My google search says no to all of these. In light of those questions, I currently have the Kingston HyperX DIMM 16GB DDR4-2133 Kit planned.

SSD: I'm confused by the many different types of SSD (SATA, m.2, PCIe) Originally I was looking at a Samsung Evo 850 (500GB for 150$), but I've also seen the Samsung SM951 for 130$ (256GB m.2 and apparently much faster) Is the higher speed really measureable?

HDD: I'm looking to add another 3 TB internal HDD to upgrade my repository space (Toshiba DT01ACA300 is my favorite atm). I will also bring my old 2 TB HDD with me.

Mainboard: Now, this is where I have little idea. I don't care about overclocking, nor do I want to use several Graphics cards. I'd like one with a decent sound card and enough slots to handle up to 32GB RAM, 2 HDDs and an SSD. My current research led me to either the MSI Z170A PC Mate or Gigabyte GA-Z170 HD3 . But both are still a bit expensive. Which would you prefer? Are there any options at a lower price?

PSU: Another item I know little about. How many Watts do I need? How can I judge relaiblity? Currently I'm looking at a Thermaltake Hamburg (530W)

Case: Same here, very little knowledge about it. I don't care about a fancy case, All I need is that it is functional(i.e. Big enough and keeps the components cool), easy to clean and has front-USB. Currently I'm looking at the Corsair Carbide 200R. Suggestions? Opinions?

Cooling CPU Cooler: Main factor here is being quiet. I'm looking at the Alpenföhn “Ben Navis” (25$), but I also consider the Scythe Mugen 4 (45$) and bequiet! DarkRock (60$) . Is the cheap one good enough, considering I won't do much overclocking or should I go for one of the bigger ones?

Considering all the elements are additional case coolers or a hard drive cooler something I should think about?

Thank you very much for your help!
