This is why we get unfinished games

The problem isn't people buying it I mean that's part of it.

The larger problems is customers and investors in these companies haven't a clue how long making a game takes. The reason alot of triple A studios have fewer features then an indie studio or some single/double A studios is that they have time lines that are much more condensed.

If customers are asking for a game every year from the industry then investors will try to match that but that's just not really realistic it never was but it's outright impossible now atleast for feature rich large games.

If a game pushes release to complete the game properly and you complain they are less likely to do it again even if they needed it. One of the reasons cyberpunk did so poorly at launch was because the in this case likely not investors because they are private traded instead owners pushed release and the owners pushed release because viewers were impatient.

That being said that's mostly the companies fault they shouldn't have even announced the game especially not showing full trailers that were clearly designed to look like GTA but sci fi when I say that's game design 101 that was literally my second class. Controlling hype is important and Cyberpunk didn't do that.

There is a reason we haven't seen skyrim gameplay yet. That is because it would hype people and force them to release early and none of us should want unfinished games released.

I'm currently a student in game development and trust me they take a long time. The reason companies appear to be able to release every year or shorter is they have alot of people and teams usually working over time. Companies that you view as slower at releasing are also well known to be good places to work typically. In larger companies this can be more complicated like a large company might be known for pushing but some specific teams might be known for treating developers well.

Just keep note of games release if a game is pushing content every week, the company is releasing games that are more complicated than the time they had or the game ascclear oversights or unused content that feels cut for time your probably seeing time crunched devs.

Games that release one large update a year but the content feels reasonable for the time frame, if they don't cave to customer pressure, if their games feel finished and anything unused feels intentionally left out because of play test feedback then these devs likely were not crunched or if they were only were on a time crunch in the last month or so.
