Denver Public Schools and their bad decisions

PLEASE READ IF YOU CARE ABOUT KIDS AND WANT POOR DECISION MAKING OF THE DPS TO END! Once again the Denver Public Schools made the bad decision to cut the budget of a school that was starting to show great gains in multiple areas. George Washington High School had several hundred thousand dollars removed from next years budget. I do not want to say how nor do I care how, just know that somebody screwed up, and 6 teacher will be cut from the staff. I was asked several years ago to help build a great art program at GW with AP, IB and a newly developed special education art mentoring program. All three programs have doubled in the last two years with several break throughs and successes. In doing this I developed a special friendship with every one on my staff. Because of this friendship, I refuse to be pitted against someone I care about for thier job. So, With deep regret I will be taking the cut myself. This is a decision I do not want to make. My two sections of Special education Art mentoring will end. After four years of piloting what has become one of the best experiences of my professional career and seeing some amazing growth, this program will come to an end. Shame on you Denver Public Schools! I DO NOT WANT TO LEAVE GW. I spent 10 years at Montbello HS watching the DPS cut and change things every time we made gains. Now they are doing it to GW. We are so sorry we made to to Green again, because now it looks like we are being punished. Now DPS will be able to destroy GW like they did Montbello. Again, shame on you DPS. I will post this only once, I will not share it. But I ask all of you to do this. Expose the horrible decision of the DPS. I am at the end of my career, and I hate to have to change now. But, I cannot with a clear conscious have one of my dear friends loose there job because I choose to stay. I love my students, so thank you DPS for ripping my heart out and killing my desire to teach. My passion for art will never die, but my passion for the Denver Public Schools is done after 23 years of dedication. I so sad for my students!
