[DISCUSSION] What ever happened to...? Discussion on singers who have disappeared from the music scene in the past decade or so.

I wonder if it relates to an interview she did on 106 & park while promoting her supposed-to-be lead comeback single King of Hearts around 2012-13. After a nice interview, she was asked (one of those secretly hardball questions posing as softball) what artist she had a crush on/stanned hardest as a kid and she relaxed too much and said Timberlake, then she saw everyone's smdh crestfallen face in the studio, like they were in mourning for her cred, and made it even worse by correcting too fast with a clearly-lying, "D'Angelo." (I'm sorry, if a girl actually had her biggest crush on D'Angelo she does not momentarily forget and think it was Timberlake.) Comeback destroyed. King of Hearts went nowhere. (Pitchfork kinda liked it tho!)

Idk, that was one of the most interesting subtextual moments in American history. On the one hand, what effect could such a tiny slip-up have? Her mistake was thinking people wanted to hear her celebrate "JT." Maybe she'd been reading Pitchfork too much. Surely anyone could forgive that kind of mistake, we all live under white supremacy. On the other hand, this was her comeback that needed to go absolutely right in every way. She'd been away six to seven years- as long as JT himself (no wonder she related to him at that moment!) and she fucked up the end of her most important TV appearance (the only part of that interview I remember... even still now). Maybe in some people's eyes she would forever be a Becky?

I wonder if this moment is something that made an impression on anyone else. Especially Janet stans (I already loved the Rhythm Nation and Control albums but wasn't yet truly boptized in the faith), would you stop caring about an artist if they said something like that? Do you think it might have destroyed Cassie's cred forever?
