does anybody just ever feel overwhelmed and pessimistic about consumerism?

The problem is the system is rigged. A candidate who throws millions in PR has way more chance of winning than regular candidates supported by citizens. I don’t remember much of the last elections in the US, but during the last ones in France Macron was supported by, simply, all the major media (he was a banker at Rothschild and he supports big corporations and neo-liberalism). At first, most people and journalists were apprehensive of him, because he’s obviously, and you can see it on his face, an opportunistic and manipulative asshole. But slowly we could see him more and more in the media, journalists praised him and ridiculed the other candidates, to the point on morning I passed a newsstand and he was on all the front page with headlines “the man who is going to save France”. There was countless ridiculous stories on his opponents and people bought it at the end because they’re too busy working to pay attentions and memorise everything going on in the media. Everything was made so Macron faces Palpatine (I mean, Le Pen) during the second voting round. And Le Pen played her part because she makes more money staying in the evil opposition to run her mafia/party. Basically media were saying “vote smart, vote for Macron, or France will be ruled by Nazis”...

Btw, Macron and his gov passed a law on candidates’ talk time during election debates: historically in France, every candidate can come on TV and talk as much as the others. But now, their time is based on their last “score” at their last elections plus their “score” on elections polls. So small candidates will literally be invisible. They want to implement it on the internet but I’m not sure how they’ll manage that unless they go full big brother on us.
