Why don't you talk to your once "best friend" anymore?

My best friend since first grade and I were like this. I moved away in 4th grade and our first 4 years of contact after that were just letters. I visited once in 8th grade and then we basically didn't talk through most of high school (mostly my fault; I'm terrible at keeping up with letter writing.) Then the internet came along and we didn't really have excuses anymore not to keep in touch, but we didn't, really. We hung out once just after high school and excitedly called each other and were in each other's wedding parties when we got married, but didn't talk much for a long time. Somehow, texting became our thing; now we talk almost every day at least a little bit. We're on opposite sides of the country now, but more than 25 years later, we get together and it's like no time has passed at all, we're giggling and spouting in-jokes and making new ones like we haven't been apart a day. I just went for a visit over the summer and had the best trip of my life spending a couple of days with her. Some people are just meant to be in your life, even if it's not all the time, every day. When you do get to see each other, things just fall into place.
