Hi! Yes, this is very common actually. There seems to be a fragmented memory of consciousness that specifically stores certain dreams especially once where we can reflect because we haven't understood the message behind. It's sort of like a hidden memory disk that can only be recalled during dreams. When we experience some kind of familiarity with a particular dream situation it is likely that we have in fact were there but can't recall it in our waking life, perhaps bc we didn't pay attention the first time the imagery popped up and now we've become more conscious about it. We are certainly able to recall stages within our dream world, so to speak. We create a map to be able to finish the missions that are assigned to us to solve during a dream. But yes, this is common.
