'Enlightened Centrism'

Still wrong. Stalin is closer to Hilter than Obama is to Stalin, but Obama is closer to Bernie than Bernie is to either of those. There is a huge political spectrum. Just because socialist leaders have been authoritarian that doesn't mean socialism is inherently authoritarian. Fascism is an inherently authoritarian ideology. You can be a libertarian socialist or libertarian communist, but you can't be a libertarian fascist. Liberalism is much more similar to socialism in that way. There could be a socialist that could agree with a liberal, but there will never be a socialist who would agree with a fascist. Fascism and socialism are diametrically opposed, whereas socialists just see liberals are people who are acting in their own material interest to protect capitalism. Socialists can understand that point of view, even if they believe that the material interest of society as a whole to end capitalism is more important than the material interest of the few who genuinely benefit from capitalism. But a socialist would never be able to sympathize with the interests of fascists, which are entirely based on upholding nationalist/ethic hierarchies.
