Enter Shikari’s 7th Album, A Kiss For The Whole World - RELEASE MEGATHREAD

Just going to live-comment my thoughts about the new songs on the second listen-through:

  • A Kiss For The Whole World: Fun and energetic, slightly weak in the verse but the chorus more than makes up for it. Feel that it would make a better ending track than an opening track.

  • Leap Into The Lightning: I like the electronic parts in the verse and the chorus is catchy, feels pretty safe but overall quite a good track! The punchy bridge sounds fantastic but feels a bit underwhelming going back into the chorus.

  • Feed Your Soul: Feels a lot like some of the old Rout remixes, really enjoyed it, wish it was longer! Not sure it has a place on the album but a good track.

  • Dead Wood: In the first half I'm not a fan of the lyrics but I think I really like everything else. The vocals bridging the two sections are absolutely magical, can't wait to hear it live. The second half is great - feel like it needs more layers like they've put in previous songs (will edit this when I remember what example I'm thinking of). Not a fan of the strings in this bit, think it would be stronger without.

  • Jailbreak: Solid track throughout, doesn't really feel like it goes anywhere until 3/4 of the way through where it builds to a really strong ending.

  • Goldfish: Probably my least favourite of the tracks, don't really find it particularly interesting and find the chorus pretty weak. Some of the vocals in the chorus remind me of Bull which is neat?

  • Giant Pacific Octopus: Lyrically this feels weak, don't really like the verses at all. The Chorus is decent but nothing special, love the guitar tone. Doesn't really feel like it goes anywhere, disappointing as the ending track!

Overall I think the album is okay, very much a 6/10 for me. I feel like they've moved musically to a place that doesn't resonate as much with me which is okay. As an album I think it's stronger than NIT but the best parts aren't as good as the best parts of NIT. Think it sits somewhere towards the bottom of my personal Shikari album rankings but an enjoyable listen regardless!
