  1. Toronto Blue Jays: Their need for rotation help is obvious, and as of Tuesday morning, the Jays really had no idea where they would turn for help in a market flush with starting pitchers. Their preference is for Samardzija, clearly, and given their all-in trade for Tulowitzki, maybe they will be compelled to go one step further and give up a top prospect to acquire the White Sox right-hander.

The Jays need pitching help, writes Richard Griffin. The Blue Jays lost second baseman Devon Travis to a re-injury Tuesday.

  1. Chicago Cubs: They'll likely add a starting pitcher before the deadline and have had conversations with the Padres (Tyson Ross is the guy they really want).

There are moves looming for the Cubs, writes Gordon Wittenmyer.

  1. Cincinnati Reds: Like Preller, Reds GM Walt Jocketty has a lot on his plate, with Leake on the table, as well as Chapman. There is still not a strong sense in the market about whether Cincinnati is devoted to the idea of flipping Chapman before the deadline or if they're more in listening mode and willing to carry him into the winter.

The Diamondbacks are interested in Chapman.

  1. Chicago White Sox: There's really no other way to put it: It's fish-or-cut-bait time with Samardzija.

9.Miami Marlins: With Zobrist off the trade board, the Marlins have one of the most coveted infield pieces available in Martin Prado. For weeks, the Marlins' stance was that they would not move the veteran infielder, but it would probably be worth their time and energy to at least consider a deal. Prado turns 32 in October, and he's not having a great season (.321 OBP, .696 OPS, four homers). Maybe the time to try and deal him is now, perhaps to the Pirates, Yankees or another team that needs infield help.

  1. Atlanta Braves: They're ready and willing to discuss their veterans, from reliever Jim Johnson to catcher A.J. Pierzynski, outfielders Cameron Maybin and Jonny Gomes ,and third baseman Chris Johnson.

Interesting side note: The Giants have been involved in the discussions of a number of the best available players. But there is absolutely zero pressure on San Francisco, which is playing well, again, after winning three World Series in the past five seasons.
