Ever had a “message from beyond the grave” experience? What’s the story?

I’ll start. A bit of backstory: I’m lesbian. I came out to my grandmother, we’ll call her Marie, a few years ago. She didn’t accept me, shit happened, we didn’t talk. And then she had a heart attack and died.

Fast forward to a few months ago. I have a girlfriend, who I have never talked to about my grandmother. Her and I are having a little at home date night. We talk, eat dinner, have a glass of wine, and head off to bed. Some time in the middle of the night, I feel her poking me and saying my name. I roll over like “what” and realize her eyes are closed, she’s still asleep. And then, ever so nonchalantly, she tells me “Marie’s here. She says she’s sorry.” And then she flops back down and continues sleeping. I did not do the same, because what the fuck just happened.

The next morning, she wakes up looking a bit disoriented. I asked her if she had a bad dream and she said no, just a bit strange. So I asked her what it was and she’s like “I think there was this old lady? With really long hair? She kept saying she needed to talk to you. Not creepy or anything but it was really realistic.” I probably stared at her for a few seconds and then told her what had happened the night before. We spent the next half an hour trying to rationalize and came to the conclusion that we must’ve gotten drunker than we remembered, I’d told her about Marie and then we’d forgotten about it and she’d just happened to dream about it and sleeptalk a bit. I can’t quite believe that though. I remember everything else from that night clearly. I don’t see how I could’ve managed to forget a whole conversation like that, especially about a kinda heavy topic. And I don’t have any photos of her nearby either, so I don’t know how my girlfriend could’ve picked up on the hair detail unless I told her which I’m certain I did not.

Either way, thanks for the apology if it really was you, grandma.
