Extrapolating the Data to Find the Golden Unicorn Placement

Aomori prefecture had high school JETs who had fully subsidized housing and very little actual work to do.

(This was of course limited to certain, not all, JETs there, and the situation could be different now.)

Generally, HS JETs get housing subsidies, others do not. HS JETs also tend to have a good deal less work. (note I am describing merely a trend I observed, not based on wide-ranging statistical data.)

I recommend re-thinking your priorities if this situation is what you are looking for; very high chance of being over-worked and zero financial benefits if you get placed as a multi-elementary JET in a metropolitan area.

Perhaps you should just apply to grad school and hope you get a scholarship so you can study there instead...? Sounds like you'd be happier doing that, but I don't know the details of your personal circumstances.
