Question about appearances and sexuality in japan

I'm not out at work, but it hasn't been an issue - like others have said, you generally don't talk about your private life with your coworkers here. Small talk isn't really a thing aside from commenting on the weather. I don't really mind it tbh.

Your pretty much guaranteed to be asked about your relationships in your "self into" class, I can tell you that. My students asked if I was married, if I had a boyfriend (I just said no), and "what type of man did I like?". So I just said "a kind person, a person who likes to travel, etc." as my answer. It's up to you if you want to out yourself, but for me my first classes as a brand new inexperienced ALT were intimidating enough without adding explaining that into it. I'm in a pretty rural area, so I wasn't sure how my kids would react to that. If you're in a big city, it probably would be easier.
