Visitors say we're shallow?

I wanted to define San Diego's diverse population in a single word. From the military and their families, constant flow of immigrants, diverse and dynamic economic trade attracting young talent and entrepreneurs, and the world class colleges and universities: so many different influxes of people with so many different backgrounds who call San Diego "home" at one point or another. Transition seemed the best common trait all these people have. Except for those born here, (like their parents and their parents...) few who have laid roots in San Diego actually have a story where they planned on staying. It usually ends with: "I (We) fell in love with the place."
