Family upset about converting. Advice?

I'm quite close to my family too. I'm Orthodox, but was in a similar situation when I converted. My biggest worry and concern was how my family would take things. My mother and sister both had major issues with closed communion- and I heard emotional tirades from the both of them. My mother called me in tears, worried I was going to hell, due to my conversion. She (and my dad and my in-laws) came to my Chrismation. She was upset with me the entire time, even flinched when anyone crossed themselves, but she was there.

We've had our moments, where she has said something to take a dig at my faith, and I responded to defend it. It took a few years to learn that no matter how good I was at explaining or defending, it wouldn't make a difference. I had to quit arguing. I just started offering them books or inviting them to church when she starts up. I just keep praying. We're still close.

Thirteen years later, it has gotten better. In fact, my FIL is now Orthodox too. My parents both respect Orthodoxy even if they don't agree with everything.
