Why do fast food joints stop serving breakfast?

McDonalds Employee here.

Short answer: We don't have enough space/equipment to do breakfast all day. The idea of at the very least EXTENDING breakfast hours has been kicked around a lot, but it hasn't exactly been put into practice.

Long answer: The grill area is only so big. The equipment we use can be on one of two settings: Breakfast or Lunch/Dinner. The difference between the two is mostly temperature settings and time settings. Sure, if we had a bigger grill area, we could just have more heating cabinets and one set of grills and vats set on lunch and another set on breakfast... But for some reason they don't do that.

Yes, A LOT of people HATE that we cut breakfast off at 10:30... But we are mainly catering to people who have been awake all morning and at work. By time they hit their lunch break, they want a double cheeseburger... Not a steak bagel.

However, on Sundays breakfast lasts till 11... Guess what? We get JUST AS MANY angry customers that really wanted a double cheeseburger at 10:30 and storm off because they'd have to wait a half hour till we switched over.

Bottom line: We honestly can't please EVERYONE.

What I personally think: Every McDonalds has a schedule as to when they get a remodel. Old store gets torn down, new one gets built. Better equipment, better design, fancier lobby. These remodels happen every so and so years. I would honestly think that by now they would design a bigger grill area so we COULD have both all day. But that's just me.

So on behalf of McDonalds, I'm really sorry for your inconvenience. Please remember, we serve hotcakes and oatmeal ALL day and sometimes we have extra burritos rolled from earlier that morning, so you can always ask them to check for that. Thanks for your business. =)
