You need 2 adult working to afford to live in this economy. Before you had the economy where one can be the stay at home parent guding/caring for the children, cleaning the house, doing the laudry, cooking the food, running the house errands. A job that one could rarely take a day break, god forbid if you got sick. "Working just as much as men" is an opinion, as it can be an all day affair. I dislike people underestimating a true home maker job.

Actually, i have a friend who works and had a child. She sleeps 3-4 hrs on average a day, overly stressed and barly able to keep the house in order because of over working. This isnt right or a healthy balance. Yes, she has a bf, but she still manages to get a job as main care taker. And woman being main caretakers or cleaners even with a job is prevalent enough. And even more single moms, so I'd say women are now expected to do more then men.
