First attempt at abstract art. Criticism welcome.

I was just sorted the front page to 'rising' posts and came across your uncommented-on-post and decided to give it a go. I do not frequent this subreddit so let's see.

Firstly just looking what I see, two spirals coming up from a literally fiery surface (lavapit, sun? or heart?! :) ) each ending up in the torso of what seems like persons, and wager a guess that right one might be a male and the left a woman. From the spirals come a great number of fiery explosions. Oh, well the symbolism is quite clear I guess, passion between two persons.

Now, I don't paint and casual museum visitor/art liker and here is my critique. Overall I miss a sense of depth, I imagine it's hard for the background, but for the fire and explosions I think you can do better (if you were aiming for this too of course). Some points of the more reddish spiral have a more rounded sense to it, but overall I think it's too flat. I see that you have tried in the upper part too have some explosions come from the front instead of the sides, and below also, and I think that is OK to have tried and work on. I like the fiery explosions with the yellow and the red in them better than some of the pure red ones. Also the gaps between the figures which are devoid of fire I gather as an artistic freedom ;) Some strokes, especially the onset below of the yellowy spiral seems distinctly different. The gap on the top with only background seems too big or otherwise too flat or unlively/uninteresting. And well it's an uninteresting debate but I wouldn't call it abstract perse as it is also a bit figurative.

I don't know from experience, but I think you have tried quite a complicated subject matter with the fire and done pretty well. I wonder if you have used a 'close-up' of the sun, sunflares or lava or did it from scratch? And to end to it I think you've done well with the hug between the figures, and hope I wasn't too negative.
