I've personally found that many women now include stuff like "obligatory not all men" in their posts

It's just one more thing in a long list of "tricks" we've had to learn to defend ourselves. The life of a woman, even an "ugly" one, is too often consumed by our defenses. I understand where you are coming from.

The guy I was responding to? Yeah. He's a perfect example of why "not all men" is a problem. He responded to me with impotent rage. I don't need to look at his post history to know there's probably a lot of it on display there. Since he's just an internet stranger, that's fine.

Hearing those words from men we see face to face? You never know if they're going to respond like you did, or like he did. Or if they're going to skip the words and just get physical.

We know good guys exist. We rarely know for sure if we are talking to one at any given time.
