First time visiting SF and was robbed at gunpoint

It may be a 1 in a million chance anything like this ever happens to a person but it does and it doesn't matter where you are. A poor or rich area. Everyone needs to remember that. You did nothing wrong, nonetheless this is a hard lesson that couldnt have been avoided. Unfortunately being wary and paranoid about shit is necessary these days. In my line of work i fear something like this happening to me everyday but i do my best to be aware of my surroundings. Im not saying i wouldve fared better im your situation. The truth is whether youre a trained ex military with a gun on you or whoever you are, this situation most likely wouldve ended the same. You can never be prepared enough but for your own survival you can try your best to be. Im glad you guys are okay. Try to not let it ruin your whole trip. Unfortunately these things happen and you were unlucky enough to be the victim. Im not familiar with the area youre in but poverty is everywhere and people notice money like a shark smells clood. Ive been robbed in broad day in city streets outside a damn courthouse for christ's sake once. Its very unfortunate but what doesnt kill you makes you stronger and wiser. Take that positive note and try to enjoy your trip man. Stick to crowded areas.
