Remember during the Covid lock downs when the police sent out PSAs to the public that all the homeless left on the streets were unable to be socialized with others in housing and to keep a distance?

I was attacked by one during the lockdowns right in front of my home. Nice area too. I fought him to get back inside my home. He stood at front door and pounded on it, pressing his face into the glass, yelling. I’ll never forget his face. It was traumatic. I still can’t walk the streets at night.

I don’t think people understand how scary and dangerous our mentally unwell homeless population is. Some of them really can’t be helped and shouldn’t be left on the street. It’s possible to hold space for both empathy and tragic realities.
