Lifting the Fog

We have problems with theft, public mental health and addiction, and homelessness, that's for sure. We also have people who are extremely bothered by these problems, and their main outlet seems to be venting online where other frustrated/bitter/cynical people validate them, talk hopelessly about the perils of liberalism, and get outraged at the idea that some people seem to them to be denying there is a problem.

Meanwhile, in real life (in my impression), basically everyone knows there are problems, but love San Francisco despite these issues. The good parts are really quite good, or the people who stay here (who can largely afford to live most anywhere else) wouldn't stay. The bad parts are also fairly avoidable.
