Fitness trainer - Drew Manning purposely put on 70 pounds so he could relate to the struggles of his overweight clients. He was able to return to his normal weight six months later.

He quit the gym too, actually, talked about how embarrassing and physically difficult it was going back to the gym, having to do knee-puships. Like I wouldn't be surprised if he had some marketing motivations for this initially, but it sounds like he gained some real empathy on what it's like for his clients. Back when this first happened the was a blog post he wrote somewhere about how normal home maintenance tasks had become so difficult he felt trapped in his body, was too embarrassed to be seen naked by his wife, etc. He obviously had a massive metabolic advantage at getting back into shape but he didn't do half measure of getting out of it.
