On June 2016, Our family went on a pilgrimage to Hemkund Sahib, a holy place for Sikhs.
It was a 22km walk to the top, around 4600 metres above sea level. It is a beautiful and serene temple, with an ice cold lake, surrounded by mountains.
Halfway through I got exhausted to the brink of collapse. I would walk 30 metres and run out of breath, panting like a silly dog.
At this moment I realised how I have destroyed my body by eating junk food and playing video games 8hrs a day.
I didn’t gave up though, I kept pushing through hell, and finally reached the halfway stop where we regrouped. Next day, I somehow managed to reach the peak.
After the journey I started running and eating home cooked food only, though occasionally I would eat a ton of ice cream. No matter what, I went running everyday, even if the heat was unbearable or i was sick. Mind you, in India temperatures reach 47 degrees Celsius or 115 degrees Farhenheit.
I am 6’3. I went from 106kg to 88kg (233 pounds to 194 pounds).
I got off the wagon a few times, but I made it back there. It was a long and tedious journey of ups and downs and made me a different person. I went from being a fat and lazy gamer to an active runner and hiker.
