Friday Unjerk Thread

Pretty random but a while back a youtuber I really like (Jon Bois) did a documentary on the nfl team the Atlanta Falcons, or all the nfl teams they’d easily be bottom 5 for me caring about but the way it was done made it very fascinating and informative. It was in part the team and it’s on field history but also tying it to the state of where America was at at the time, kind of a lite version of the OJ documentary.

The problem was the last episode which was like 95% focused on their Super Bowl collapse vs the Pats they made the choice to tie it into the trump presidency/elections, which wasn’t an unreasonable choice considering is lined up and at moments was tied in pretty loosely. But it was just so bizarrely handled, like it kept alternating between making it a “David vs Goliath” metaphorical comparison and literally implying that the pats winning was a direct victory for trump. One of the two main commentators did a whole talk about how much he hated the lazy “trump bad because he’s orange lol” commentary that overshadowed any sort of informative commentary that could’ve educated people on important issues, but then it would cut to the other guy going on about how “the big dumb Cheeto was watching the game”. Or after spending a good chunk talking about how society should not hold a grudge against Michael Vick and learn to forgive people it suddenly was calling people like Brady or Belichik irredeemable for having vague association with trump.

It felt like if there was a terrific 6 part documentary with a side of current social commentary, but the last part they brought in Adam McKay and told him to go wild.
