Frustrated by "Mastering the Core Teachings of the Buddha". Suggestions?

TL;DR: Having doubts about a book because it conflicts with your beliefs of the laws of the universe.

You seem to have a hard time with those thoughts. Remember that they are a part of you, they're not a disease, and they don't need to be dealt with or cured. It's not the thoughts themselves that are bad, it's the fear surrounding these thoughts that make you turn away, that makes you anxious, that makes you want to find a cure(that's what it sounds like). Whether that cure is from a book or through a beleif. And, to me atleast, that's the wrong way to look at it. When you want to cure a part of you it implies that there's something wrong with you, it causes feelings of rejection and aversion towards yourself! And that can make it more difficult to deal with yourself. This is the advice I will give you: You need to first accept these thoughts and welcome them into your heart. Let them in and study how they make you feel. The same way you treat other thoughts during meditation, objectively and with equanimity. See what it feels like to be a human being experiencing those thoughts. Ask yourself if it would be possible to have those thoughts be there with you and not be afraid of them. Just let them sit with you with equanimity and get familiar with them. You may come over some thought-patterns you never thought you had that caused alot of stress. For short periods of time you may find that these ideas aren't all that bad and that they're manageble through meditation, through equanimity and a little bit of courage.

Basically before you think about doing anything else you should start working with what you've got going on inside of you already. Don't adopt other peoples ideas thinking that they will replace your own personal fears.

Good luck man
