Meditation pulled me out of a dark place of looping thoughts.

A simple explanation as to why this helped you is that a wandering mind is more creative than a looping mind and putting the brake on compulsively controlling experience makes you more creative generally.

Creativity can more easily lead to solutions beyond the ordinary ruts.

But creativity doesn't equal positive outcomes automatically. This is important to understand.

So meditation doesn't automatically make you a good person. This is why meditation traditions often incorporate moral training into the practice.

So then meditative practice comes in at least two forms roughly speaking, the releasing and letting go of strained effort and control, and the gentle but persistent effort to be good and moral.
